Volunteer

Scouts in our District is run entirely by volunteers. We have volunteering opportunities for both adults and young people aged 14-17, take a look at the different ways that you could get involved here.

Adult volunteers

We are always keen to hear from new adults who are interested in volunteering – there are lots of different ways to get involved to suit different interests, skills and availability, there really is something to suit everyone. More adults help us to open new groups or expand existing ones and to offer the fun and adventure of Scouting to more young people than ever before. Whether you are the parent of a young person and want to give it a go at the same time as your child, someone who has been a Scout themselves or someone completely new to Scouting looking for a way to give something back to the community then look no further. Scouting is fun, rewarding and valued by employers so it looks great on your CV.

We’ve listed some of our ongoing roles below but are far from exhaustive. If you think you’ve got something to offer get in touch and we’ll help you to work out what is right for you!

Young Leaders (volunteers age 14-17)

As well as adult volunteers we have opportunities for young people aged 14-17 to volunteer. This forms part of our Young Leaders scheme where young people volunteer with the Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts helping to run the group by running games and activities. Throughout they are supported through our training programme and develop valuable leadership skills which are recognised by further education establishments and employers. Taking part in the young leaders scheme is also a great way to complete the volunteering element of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and whilst many of our young leaders are also Explorer Scouts we also have opportunities for those completing the DofE award elsewhere to volunteer with us.
