Pybus Scout Campsite
Sat on the edge of the Cleveland Hills in North Yorkshire this picturesque campsite is perfect for camps of all types with direct access to all that the moors offers.

Pybus Scout Campsite is also known as Stockton, Thornaby & District Scouts camp site and sits on the slopes of the Cleveland Hills, just over a mile from the picturesque village of Kirkby-in-Cleveland. It’s too far away from the Wainstones and is ideally situated for walking, climbing and exploring the North York Moors National Park but also just a stones throw away from numerous places of interest.
The campsite covers an area of approximately 14 acres of rough moorland and is available for use by members of the Scouts, Girl Guiding UK and Duke of Edinburgh Award participants. In addition to the plentiful camping space, the site also features an indoor accommodation block – Warren Cottage.
Access to the camp site for cars and vans is via the road from Kirkby-in-Cleveland and a bridleway/rough track (on the right) from the main entrance gate to the site car park. Unfortunately, the road (known as Hill Road) leading up to the site from Kirkby village is unsuitable for coaches or large lorries and it is impossible to turn a coach or large lorry round at the entrance to the site, therefore coaches are prohibited from the camp site.
Warren Cottage
Warren Cottage is our indoor accommodation block and was extensively refurbished in 2011 to provide space for a maximum of 23 visitors.
This former farm house has electric heating throughout along with a wood/coal fire in the kitchen which can provide additional heat to the building if required, though visitors will need to provide their own wood/coal if they wish to use this.
The building is split into a main hall/activity room, kitchen, toilets and 3 dormitories.
The main hall has tables and benches to seat 23 people, storage shelves, TV with HDMI and USB-C connections for presentations and films etc.
The kitchen is fully featured and has hot and cold running water. With two, electric, double oven/hobs, large fridge/freezer, toaster, microwave, hot water boiler and kettle, a good selection of pots, pans and cooking utensils and sufficient crockery and cutlery for 23 people most visitors will not need to bring any additional equipment.
We have one downstairs dormitory and the other two are upstairs. The downstairs room sleeps 5 whilst the upstairs ones sleep 6 and 12.The building also features toilet facilities that are for the exclusive use of those using Warren Cottage. These toilets feature, toilets, sinks, mirrors and electric showers. Visitors to Warren Cottage are also welcome to use the outside facilities as this can prove useful during the day to prevent young people needing to go in and out of the main building.
Camping
Camping is on rough moorland thoughout the campsite and the site warden will suggest the most suitable area to all visitors upon arrival, however please note the area directly in front of Warren Cottage cannot be camped upon.
All campers have access to our toilet and washrooms which feature hot and cold running water, hand basins and mirrors. Unfortunately we have no shower facilities for those who are only using camping facilities. We also have a dedicated pan wash area with hot and cold running water, two large sinks suitable for washing up in and a fridge. Outside of this room there is also a low level tap, suitable for filling water containers.
